The next few years will be big for book-to-screen adaptations.

We’re starting to see the silver screen aftermath of BookTok’s biggest hits after “It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover debuted as a Blake Lively film this summer. Next, Hoover’s “Verity” will be a film starring Anne Hathaway

And there are plenty of other BookTok-popular books that have been greenlit for movies or television, including Rebecca Yarros’ dragon-filled romantasy “Fourth Wing,” “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and Emily Henry’s “The People We Meet on Vacation.” “The Housemaid” by Frieda McFadden will star Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney.

Even the new “Hunger Games” prequel “Sunrise on the Reaping” has a feature film in the works, despite the book not being out until March.

2025 book-to-movie adaptations to look out for

In 2024, we saw major screen adaptations like “Wicked,” “Bridgerton,” “Shōgun,” “The Idea of You” and the “The Nickel Boys.” Here are the movies and series we can expect in 2025, as well as the books they’re adapted from. Release dates are subject to change.

The beloved Renée Zellweger returns after nearly 10 years. “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” adapted from the book of the same name by Helen Fielding also stars Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall. In the fourth movie, Bridget Jones is now a widow, navigating grief, dating and single motherhood.

‘The Electric State’ (March 14)

Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown, left) and Keats (Chris Pratt) in "The Electric State."

The Russo brothers are directing “The Electric State,” adapted from the Swedish sci-fi graphic novel of the same name. Millie Bobby Brown will star as an orphaned teenager searching for her brother across a post-apocalyptic American West, joined by a loveable robot and a drifter (Chris Pratt).

‘Mickey 17’ (April 18)

Robert Pattinson as Mickey 18 and Robert Pattinson as Mickey 17 in “Mickey 17,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

Edward Ashton’s sci-fi novel “Mickey7” will hit theaters as Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17,” starring Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. The premise is a doozy: Mickey is an “Expendable,” or a disposable employee sent on dangerous missions to colonize a new world. When one Mickey dies, a new body is regenerated, ready to take on the next mission.

‘Percy Jackson and The Olympians’ Season 2 (2025)

Walker Scobell stars as the young title hero of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians."

The second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” will be released sometime this year, according to Disney. Season 2 is adapted from “The Sea of Monsters” by Rick Riordan and finds protagonist Percy back at Camp Half-Blood a year later as his world is turning upside down.

‘Klara and the Sun’ (Expected 2025)

Jenna Ortega will star in the upcoming adaptation of "Klara and the Sun."

Taika Waititi will adapt the bestselling “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro into a film starring Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams. “Klara and the Sun” is a story from the perspective of an “Artificial Friend” bot whose mission is to prevent loneliness. A release date has not yet been announced, but the movie is expected to come out sometime in 2025.

‘Forever’ (2025)

Judy Blume’s 1975 novel “Forever” will be reimagined as a Netflix series sometime this year. Alongside a teaser trailer, Netflix described the series as an “epic love story of two Black teens exploring romance and their identities through the awkward journey of being each other’s firsts, set in Los Angeles, 2018.”

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Season 3 (Expected in summer)

"The Summer I Turned Pretty" is coming back to Prime Video this summer.

Get ready to head back to Cousins Beach – “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 3 is on the horizon. Adapted from the Jenny Han young adult novels, the series follows teenage Belly (Lola Tung) caught between which brother to give her heart to – Conrad (Christopher Briney) or Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). The series doesn’t have a set release date yet, but we know from the show’s official social media accounts that 11 episodes of “TSITP” are coming to Prime Video sometime this summer.

‘Cold Storage’ (Expected September)

Liam Neeson will star in the Jonny Campbell-directed "Cold Storage" in 2025.

“Cold Storage” is an upcoming Liam Neeson film where a fungus finds its way out of a buried cold storage in a government facility, wreaking fatal havoc on the world. The film is based on the novel by David Koepp, the screenwriter of “Jurassic Park.” “Cold Storage” is expected to release in September

‘The Running Man’ (Nov. 7)

You can watch Glen Powell as "The Running Man" in the 2025 remake.

“The Running Man” is getting a remake – Glen Powell will star in the adaptation of Stephen King’s sci-fi novel (published in 1982 under a pseudonym). Set in a dystopian 2025, “The Running Man” is about a man entering a violent, government-sanctioned game show. No one has survived longer than 8 days on the show, but if Ben can make it a month, he’ll have a shot at a billion-dollar prize.

‘Wicked: For Good’ (Nov. 21)

Part two of Jon M. Chu's "Wicked" adaptation comes out in 2025.

We’re not done holding space for “Wicked” just yet. The second part of the saga – officially titled “Wicked: For Good” – will premiere ahead of Thanksgiving. The movie musical is adapted from the Broadway show, which was adapted from the Gregory Maguire book “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.” “Wicked” part two picks up right as Elphaba lifts off, defying gravity on her broomstick to outrun the Wizard and his newly-flying monkeys.
